Each day we dedicate some of our time to school work and some of it to extracurricular activities. However, there are several ways to connect these two areas of student life. Wake offers many student organizations which are great ways to apply what you are learning in your classes, to gain experience for future internships and jobs, and to collaborate with other students and professors who share your interests. Here are just a few suggestions of the many organizations to consider looking into that are great compliments to some of Wake’s most common areas of study.
Develop your writing or editing skills by working on campus publications like Old Gold & Black, The Howler, 3 to 4 ounces, or HerCampus. Many of these publications also have students devoted to public relations, which is a great way to gain experience in the field. Wake TV and Wake Radio are also fun ways to learn more about broadcast media.
Connect with others who share your interest in business through Finance Club, Accounting Society, and Advertising Club. These groups offer great ways to gain experience and learn more about the fields of study within the business school which interest you. Wake’s chapter of the co-ed business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi is also a great way to network and prepare for the professional world.
Voice your opinions and share your ideas with your fellow students in political groups like College Democrats or College Republicans. Participating in Wake’s Student Government also provides students with the chance to gain leadership experience and communication skills.
In addition to the organizations listed here, Wake has clubs and academic honor societies related to almost every possible major on campus! Talk to your adviser or visit http://wakeforest.orgsync.com/home for more possibilities.
